Indoor League - extra information

Entrance to the Sports Hall

The Richmond School Sports Hall entrance is down steps at the left hand end of the school buildings.

Kit

No plastic bats please, but any old wooden bat will be as effective as the best english willow bat due to the soft ball used. In terms of clothing, anything suitable for running about in is OK, but full leg covering is needed. Wicketkeepers and batters must wear helmet, gloves and pads, there will be club kit available for those that do not have their own.
Younger players are likely to need help putting their kit so that they can move their legs and see where the ball is coming from, it would be appreciated if parents of these younger players could ensure they are kitted up ready when it is their turn to bat.

Timing

It takes some effort to complete a game in the hour allowed, so please arrive 5 minutes before the game is due to start.

Playing the game and tactics

Key to success as a team is getting the most out of less experienced players. Making inexperienced players keep wicket or face the best bowlers is not a good idea.

For fielders, stopping the ball hitting the walls is key, particularly the wall at the bowler's end. Wild throws trying to achieve a run out can easily cost a lot of runs.

Batters need to remember to run, unless you are a very strong player, you will score much more easily playing gentle shots and running rather than trying to play big shots.

Who is to bowl the last over needs careful consideration - in the last over, wides and no balls have to be rebowled.

Spectating

There is a room upstairs with a large window looking down over the hall. If you are not involved in helping run the game, this is the best place to watch from.

Umpiring

Although there are rules, umpires are allowed to bend them in order to ensure a decent game of cricket as, long as it is not likely to change the result of a game. E.g. if a team is on a score of 20 for 4, they might give batters 5 and 6 a second life.
