Under 9’s CHAMPIONS

Richmondshire Under 9’s went to Masham on Sunday, 8th September to play off against Thornton Watlass.
With the sun beating down our squad we’re full of confidence and excitement before the match.
Bobby was chosen to be captain for this match and won the toss and elected to field first. Richmond bowled and fielded extremely well with only 17 runs scored off the first 8 overs, more importantly they managed to get 5 wickets in this first spell. With another 4 wickets in the second phase of 8 overs Thornton Watlass finished up with a total of 234. Notable contributions came from Joseph Brooke’s, 3 wickets for 8 runs and Ralph Hoskins Abrahall, 2 wickets for 7 runs.
Richmond were quietly confident on been able to chase this total down, with Ted and Ralph adding 22 runs, in came Bertie and Beth who added another 29 runs. Richmond went on from strength to strength and it was pretty clear by the time the last pair came in Richmond couldn’t lose the match. We finished on a total of 301, and progressed to the final!

The final showdown was against Alne, Elliot Miller was given the captains armband for this match, been his 10th Birthday it was only fitting. We decided if we won the toss we’d field again and we did win the toss.
With the same order that bowled in the play off we went by our business. The final nerves we’re definitely there as our field was a little poor in some areas were we gave away 26 runs in byes, Alne finished on a respectful 262 at the end of the 16 overs.
Richmond knew they could and have successfully scored well in excess of this in many matches this season. Teddy and Ralph got us off to a good start posting 27 runs off there 4 overs, Beth and Bertie then added another 25 runs, Bobby and Olly 21 runs, again with a fair amount wides and byes some 48 runs, Richmond comfortably posted a total of 299 and were duly crowned Hambleton League Under 9’s Champions. Well done to the team and everyone else that made a contribution throughout the season.
