Richmond U11s NYACC match report vs Norton

Norton U11s 271 for 6 (241 net) v Richmondshire U11s 273 for 4 (253 net)

Richmondshire continued the good start to their NYACC season with an excellent 12 run victory against a strong Norton side containing 2 county players.

After winning the toss, captain Joe White chose to bat on the sunniest day we’ve had so far in May. Max and Issac opened the innings and were immediately under pressure with some excellent line and length bowling from the opposition. However, they batted with confidence and determination which was great to watch.

James and debutant Gabe came to the crease next. Cox decided to take the game to the opposition and thundered some boundary-bound shots to all corners of the ground, departing with 12 runs to his name.

The third pair also had to endure some tight bowling. It was great to see our second debutant, Joel Harrod standing firm against a county player in his first competitive game, ably supported by some defensive shots by Eddy Player that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a Wisden Almanack.

With only a modest score on the board, it was essential that our final pair of Joe and Jack created their usual chaos in the scorers’ box. Thankfully they didn’t disappoint, with a further 33 runs added without the loss of a wicket, thus providing the opposition with a target of 253.

And so the reply began. First over from Max - an excellent catch from Joel (after some juggling) which set the tone. After the first pair departed, 4 wickets had been gained, along with 3 maidens!

Bowling was excellent throughout. Only 3 wides and 4 no balls were afforded to the opposition which helped to keep their score down. The fielding was also of high standard. Great backing up and accurate throwing ensured that no runs were sacrificed. Norton finished 12 runs short.

The Wensleydale Heifer player of the match is awarded to Max Percival for his excellent batting performance to fend off some high quality bowling as well as some great bowling to gain him figures of 3-1-8-2.
