Under 9 team finishes league campaign with another win

The under 9 team went on a long journey south to play their final match against the league all-girls team and finished up with a 49 run victory. Richmondshire 91 for 7 (256 net), Girls 72 for 13 (207 net)

The match was played at Stillington, with an Incrediball on a lovely hard grass wicket with long boundaries, so a step in the direction of hard ball cricket.
The girls won the toss and put our team in to bat. The girls were one short and we started the match with one of our players as a sub fielder. Andrew and Isaac opened, Andrew scored 11 runs but was out twice, Isaac 8 not out. Maisie and Lottie went in next and batted steadily. Come the eighth over, Catherine Ralph was persuaded to play for the girls, she bowled straight away, producing a wicket maiden. Third pair were Jack and Max P, with Jack adopting a traditional village green approach on his way to scoring 12 not out. The final pair Tom and Max D ran hard, with Max scoring 10 not out. Catherine Ralph had the best bowling figures for the girls, with 2 wickets for 4 runs.

The girls team had their four best batters in the last two pairs, the first two pairs lost 11 of the 13 wickets to fall, so although the last two pairs batted well, they had no hope of making up the deficit. There was some outstanding catching from Isaac, Tom and Max D, with the large outfield there was a bit of ball chasing to be done, but as a result we did not concede any fours. The main wicket takers were Maisie (2-8), Lottie (2-15), Jack (3-11) and Andrew (2-7).

We finish the league with the same record as Masham: played 7, won 6, lost 1.
