Under 13 Match Reports

Solid start for U13s
The U13s kicked off their season with a narrow win over local rivals Masham in the first round of the ECB National Cup.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl looked a good decision as Sam Potter removed their North Yorkshire opener in the first over and Jonny Baines also picked up another early wicket. Masham rebuilt well though and had two players retired on 30 and were well placed on 74 after 14 overs. Richmond upped their game over the last 6 overs with more wickets falling (2 to Alex Speakman) to restrict Masham to 82-7 off their allotted 20 overs.
In reply Richmond started steadily and rode their luck a little to see off the pacy Masham opening bowlers. Uchenna  Anyadiegwu picked up a useful 15 and with runs too from Jonny Baines and debutant George Pollard (a big money close season transfer from Masham) Richmond squeezed home in the dark in the final over with 5 wickets down.
Studley Royal are our next opponents away on Monday May 16th. Well done to the boys as this was a really competitive game of cricket that we did well to win.

U13 Lowery Cup campaign starts well
The U13s continued their winning ways in their first Lowery Cup game of the season on Monday night. Reverting to the pairs format meant everyone had to contribute with bat and ball.
Richmond batted first and all pairs looked to bat positively. Highlights included another fluent knock from Jonny Baines for 21 n.o. along with Patrick Carlton unveiling a couple of cheeky cover drives for 4 to post an impressive 31 from their 4 overs together. The final pair of Sam Potter and Alex Speakman also struck the ball nicely to add 38 more runs with Richmond finishing on a competitive 117-4 from their 20 overs giving a net score of 285.
Sedgefield’s opening pair started well and were up with the run rate at 29-1 after 5 overs but as the game wore on Richmond’s greater strength in depth began to show and miserly bowling from Alex Speakman, Henry Shepherd, Harry Mawer and Angus Potter saw wickets falling regularly with Sedgefield eventually finishing on 84-9 to give a net score of 212 and a win for Richmond by 73 runs.

The next match against Newton Aycliffe will see a much changed side to give other players a game but hopefully continue our winning start.
