U15s win Chester Cup

On a pleasant evening we lost the toss and were put in to bat. Things didn't look good. Matthew, George, Spence and Gary, who between them have scored over 700 runs this season, managed a combined total of 13 as we slumped to 30 for 4. Sam was still in and staged a bit of a recovery with James, a recovery which was then taken further by Mark and Harvey "Eggs" Websdale as we finished on 113 all out off the last ball. Sam scored 27, Mark 28 and Harvey 16 not out. We were helped in our recovery by poor field setting, as Barney failed to protect the boundaries.

Barney started well, after 10 overs they were 49 for 2, at the same stage we were 50 for 5. However, sharp fielding, excellent field setting and good bowling saw Barney fall behind the required rate. Barney's batting looked very dependent on their captain Tom Merryweather and when Matthew caught him off the bowling of Jonny Carr the suspicion that they were in trouble proved correct as they finished 17 runs short on 96 for 6.

Well done to the 11 who played in the match and also to those who played in the earlier rounds. Although we have a number of very good players, it was strength in depth that got us this win.
