Glimpse of the future at Middleton in Teesdale

There was a positive glimpse of the future today in the softball tournament at Middleton in Teesdale. A Richmond team with virtually no match experience performed with skill and enthusiasm that bodes well for next season's U11 team.

In the three group games, Richmond were firstly narrowly beaten by 2 runs by an older and more experienced Rockliffe side. But then Richmond really hit their stride with comfortable victories over Barnard Castle and Middleton in Teesdale to qualify for the final. There, Rockliffe were our nemesis again with another narrow victory, leaving Richmond picking up silver.

Particularly impressive was the bowling, which was sharp and straight, and the catching. It was a good overall team performance where all 10 players made good contributions. It would be unfair to single any player out. So, well done to Toby Broderick, Kia Taylor-McCall, Ross Wheatley, George Rutherford, Gabriel Stewart, Will Mawer, Kai York, Will Sharp, Henry Banks and Will Newson.

A big thank you to John Broderick for sterling work beyond the call of duty on the scorebook all afternoon

Adrian
