Richmond U13 Wide Their Way To First Defeat

Richmond U13 played their local rivals Darlington in their latest league game and suffered their first defeat of the season.

Batting first for the third game in a row Richmond would have been happy with their efforts with the bat.  They batted pretty well throughout on a very green pitch and managed to post a respectable 114 for 4 wickets off their 20 overs. Tom Dowson and James Kelly both retired on 31 runs and Louis Peacock added 17 runs.  At the halfway stage Richmond were rightly confident at maintaining their unbeaten run.

However it all went wrong when they took to the field and ended up gifting Darlington their first win against Richmond at this age group for some time.  Darlington chased down the 115 runs they required in the 19th over.  However the story of the innings was a series of dropped catches and wide bowling.  Wides ended up giving Darlington an incredible 39 runs, had Darlington been required to get these off the bat I'm sure they would have fallen well short of their target.

A disappointing display and we need to get back to some straight bowling and our winning ways against Barnard Castle next week.
