U13s START THE SEASON STRONGLY

Richmond U13s team have started the season well, with two victories in their first two games.

The first game at Newton Aycliffe was played with the threat of rain never far away.  Richmond batted first and racked up 322 runs for the loss of 3 wickets, leaving them with an impressive net score of 298.  It was pleasing to see lots of aggressive batting with lots of boundaries hit.  James Kelly top scored with 17 runs and Tom Dowson added 12 runs.  Oliver Cocksedge's runs included probably the first 5 of his career from a wayward overthrow.

Considering it was the first game of the season Richmond's bowling was very tidy.  A steady procession of wickets meant that Newton Aycliffe finished on 252 runs for the loss of 11 wickets, leaving them with a net score of 164 runs.  Oliver Cocksedge took 2 for 4 and Sam Potter was his normal accurate self taking 2 for 2 in his 2 overs.  I am sure the topic of debate on the way home was the wide his dad gave against him.

The margin of victory was an impressive 134 runs and everyone could be well pleased with their first outing of the season.

The second game was against Billingham at Gilling.  As often is the case Billingham showed up with an inexperienced team and although they tried hard throughout it turned into an easy victory for Richmond.  Batting first Richmond again scored heavily, posting 301 runs for the loss of 2 wickets and a net score of 285.  Key contributions came from Tom Dowson with 23 runs, Jordan Forbes with 13 runs and Tom Ward, one of the Club's talented U11s, making 12 runs.

It was slow progress when Billingham batted and they managed only one boundary throughout.  They ended on 228 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, meaning a net score of 196 runs.  Wickets were taken by Griffin Bewell, Sam Potter and Tom Dowson.

Another good win by 89 runs.
