Junior News and a Quiz Question

There's only been one junior match to date, but the season is up and running and numerous juniors have already played adult matches and been busy helping to prepare for the season.

I was going to go and watch the 3rd XI play against Great Ayton today but the match was over in less than 90 minutes. Some impressive bowling figures from Joe Shields (4 for 13), Sam Winter (2 for 13) and Adam Langhorne (3 for 5) as the Great Ayton batters crumbled against an all junior attack in 16.2 overs.

The 2nd XI did well against Darlington at Feethams gaining a "winning draw", with Owen Kelly, Joe Shields and Josh Dowson all scoring runs and taking wickets.

The 5th XI lost on Saturday against Etherley, a recently reformed team that has fielded a current test match cricketer in their side. Jordan Forbes and Griffin Bewell made their adult cricket debuts on a rather damp pitch, Jordan bowling five overs and Griffin cracking two excellent fours. Johnnie Carlton got his name in the paper with fine bowling figures of 4 for 20 from 10 overs.

It was good to see Jordan's Dad Kevin Forbes return to the first team wicket keeping position after being unable to play last season, I got back from the fifths match in time to see a trademark stumping.

Harvey Websdale has put in some hard labour helping 2nd XI captain "Buzz" and others prepare the new patio and decked area at the club, construction of which is ongoing.

Kristal Richardson organised a bag pack fundraiser at the Co-op, thankyou to those younger juniors that turned out and raised approximately £150 over the Easter weekend, which included Torin, Edmund, Kai, Toby, Sophie and Amy.

Quiz question - who is the current test cricketer that played for Etherley? (only juniors, not those who played in the match are eligible). The first person to give me the correct answer gets a new ball appropriate to the type of cricket they play. The answer is Shikhar Darwan of India and the winner was Georgie Walker.
