U11 Match v Stockton, Match Report

With at least four members of the team making their competitive debut against a team above us in the league, a win was not expected. However, we gave Stockton a decent game and our less experienced players got a pleasant morning for their introduction to hard ball cricket.

We batted first, Ben started perhaps too positively as he put up a skier which was dropped, his partner Patrick was unfortunately bowled off by a short ball which bounced off his body and dropped onto the stumps. Edmund and Torin were in next, and managed to keep the net score positive, with Torin hitting a fine four but also being bowled once. Third pair Joe and Will were each dismissed once, before Olly produced some fireworks in the last pairing with Harry. Olly was given caught behind off his first ball and Harry run out by a good piece of fielding, but a six over mid wicket and two more boundaries took the score to 51 for 6, 203 net. The extras count from Stockton was impressive, with only two no-balls and two wides bowled.

Stockton scored 69 for 3 in their reply, 245 net, giving a victory margin of 42 runs. Star bowler was Patrick Carlton, with two wickets for three runs in his three overs, both of them bowled. Will Sharp took the other wicket, thanks to a sharp catch by Olly Stone at short cover.
