Stockton U11 v Richmond U11 - Match Report

Richmond U11s travelled to Stockton for a crucial league game that would go a long way to determining the winners of the league.  The night started well with Tom winning the toss and putting Stockton into bat.

Stocktons progress was slow and after the first two pairs had batted they had a net score of 202 runs with wickets falling to a good stumping by Tom Dowson off the bowling of Jordan Forbes and a clean bowled dismissal from a full length delivery from Oliver Cocksedge.  In the third pair was Stockton's most dangerous batsman and he managed to hit a few boundaries to boost their score.  However they were pegged back again when James Kelly got a wicket with the last pair in and with scoring again slow Stockton finished their innings on a score 243 runs and for the loss of 3 wickets giving a net score of 219 runs.  What was particularly pleasing was that in 16 overs we only bowled 2 wides - a fantastic effort from any age group and amazing from an U11 team.  Tight bowling from everyone including George Callaghan on his debut giving away only 2 runs in his 2 overs.

When Richmond batted they got off to a flying start with James Kelly hitting 18 runs from the first over bowled by their main bowler, a fantastic effort with some great cricket shots.  James and Oliver carried on in the same vain throughout their overs and notched up 46 runs for the loss of 1 wicket to put Richmond well in charge.  Understandably the pace slowed a little from there although if there was a bad ball bowled it normally resulted in runs.  On a ground that had a few very long boundaries there was also the unusual occurrence of an all run 4 with Tom and Ralph Makepeace achieving the feat.  At the end Richmond had hit an impressive 299 runs and once the 4 wickets were deducted  this left a net score of 267 runs and a win by 48 runs.

This was an extremely impressive performance against a team seen as their main rivals.  Tight bowling was backed up with some good aggressive batting and despite a few regulars missing the lads that came in were excellent again.

This means there is one game left away at Blackhall tomorrow night and a victory will sow up the league.  Lets hope the weather forecast is wrong!
