Winning In the Rain

Billingham U11 v Richmond U11 - Match Report

Richmond U11 somehow got a game in at Billingham on Tuesday evening despite the rain that was around as they continued their league campaign.

After a delayed start the rain eased a little and both teams decided to make a start.  Billingham batted first and despite the wet ball they were having to contend with Richmond bowled extremely well throughout the innings against a young Billingham team.  So well infact that in the whole 16 overs only 1 run was scored off the bat by Billingham (although with better running this could have been added to).  Richmond bowled a total of 10 maidens from the 16 overs and at the end Billingham had totalled 214 runs and with the loss of 2 wickets, one from a fantastic delivery by Jonathan Baines and one from Uchenna's first wicket for the team, Billingham had a net score of 198 runs.

Richmond adopted a much more aggressive approach when they batted and the first pair Jordan and Tom Ward added a pairs total of 19 runs which could have been more but after Tom was struck with a full toss and went off the pitch Henry Noke came in to complete their overs and was bowled.  Steady progress was made through the rest of the innings, some of it played in heavy rain, and Richmond ended on 267 runs for the loss of 2 wickets meaning a net score of 251 runs and another comfortable win.  The conditions were not ideal but at least the game was played and its another marked off the fixture list.
