RICHMOND U11 V BARNARD CASTLE U11 - MATCH REPORT

Richmond U11s continued their league campaign with a home game against Barnard Castle at Gilling.

Following a two week break from cricket following the cup final win against Stockton Richmond batted first and found the going tough against some accurate bowling.  No batsman really got to grips with the pitch and conditions although sensibly most of the batsman decided to keep their wickets intact even though the scoring rate was reasonably slow.  James Kelly top scored in the last pair and this pushed the final total up to 260 runs for the loss of 2 wickets and a net total of 244 runs.

When Barnard Castle batted their first two pairs adopted a similar approach to Richmond and batted cautiously, however with some help from some wides bowled by Richmond by the halfway stage they were in a strong position.  However Richmond got back into the game during the third pair with two wickets from Henry Noke and one from Oliver Cocksedge from a fine catch by Loius Peacock.  This meant Barnard Castle's last pair needed to score very quickly and in their desire to do this they lost another three wickets with two for Ryan and one for James Kelly.  This meant a final score of 264 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and a net score of 208 runs.

So what looked like being a very close game turned into a comfortable win in the end for Richmond who carried on their excellent run of form.  However the next two games are against their main rivals for the league and this is when they will be truly tested, starting with Sedgefield on Friday night.
