Masham 6 a side U11 cup tournament report

Tournament report from Adrian Fletcher, thankyou Adrian for looking after the team:

Despite the competing priority of the U11s final, Richmond took a good and enthusiastic team to the U11's Junior Hawks 6 a side cup at Masham, including two players, James Newson and Sam Wilson, who were new to U11's competitive cricket for Richmond. There were two leagues of four teams, with the winner progressing to the final. The team was Tom Ward(c), Uchena Anyadiegwu, Owen Greaves, Griffin Bewell, Sam Wilson and James Newson.

In game 1 against Masham Steamers, in baking heat, Richmond posted an excellent total of 117. Star performers were Tom and Owen, both retired after reaching 25, with useful late contributions from James and Sam boosting the score. An excellent bowling performance from all, supported by great fielding, including a great catch and runout from Sam, restricted Masham to 51.

Richmond were on again straight away in the testing early afternoon heat against Pateley Bridge, and this was reflected in a lacklustre performance. Helped by some slightly erratic bowling, with the exception of Uchena (1-5 in 2 overs), Pateley Bridge posted 93. In reply, Richmond never recovered from early losses, and some very disciplined bowling from Pateley Bridge saw Richmond bowled out off the last ball for 42.

After a break, Richmond stormed back in style in game 3 against Masham Sheep. Excellent knocks from Tom and Uchena before being retired, well supported by James, generated a good target of 75. Another great bowling performance from the whole team, led by Tom with 3-9, particularly well supported by Griffin and Owen, and a top catch by Uchena and runout from Owen saw Masham bowled out for 46.

Unfortunately Richmond were just pipped to a place in the final by Masham Sheep, on run rate. Every member of the side contributed really well at different stages, and it was an excellent day out, being extremely well organised and hosted by Masham CC.

Masham actually went on to win the tournament, so the boys had the satisfaction of beating the utlimate winners
