Match Report D&D League Richmondshire U13 v Darlington U13

The first junior match of the season at Gilling took place on the rotated wicket, which had much more bounce than last year's wickets. On a bright, sunny evening, the only concern with the weather was the potential to be dazzled by the sun as it set. Darlington admitted they had quite a good team out, with many of their players with weekend rugby and football commitments playing in their midweek side.

Richmondshire batted first, although nobody got a duck, the batting was a bit of a disaster in that nobody got double figures and 11 wickets were lost, the score of 62 for 11 resulting in a net score of 207. Many of the dismissals were soft, the bowling was not too good for our batsmen, there were simply too many swipes at straight balls and easy catches given from soft airborne shots. Well done to Jonny Carr for not giving his wicket away. Not very well done for Kookaburra as Luke Bell's bat broke in half; Luke is now on the lookout for a bat sponsor.

When it was Darlington's turn to bat, there was little pressure on them, as they knew that if they just defended, they would win easily. Two of their batsmen got double figures, the rest got only 13 runs between them, but as the only wicket to fall was the one taken by Jonny Carr in the second over, the Darlington score of 77 for 1 equated to a net 272 and a 65 run winning margin for our rivals. It won't be the same on Sunday when we play them in the NYACC cup !!

Most sides in this league will not be of anything like the standard Darlington were tonight; as long as our players learn to value their wicket, they will win most of their fixtures.
