Match Report, D and D U13 match v Barton

Richmondshire 107 for 6 (277 net) beat Barton 103 for 6 (273 net) by 4 runs.

A close match played in a friendly atmosphere on a very good pitch, with a number of familiar faces in the Barton team. Thanks to the Barton club for switching the fixture so that we could get a game on after the weekend's heavy rain.

Barton had 10 players, so they had 5 pairs batting 4 overs, whilst we had 4 pairs batting 5 overs. As expected, James Kelly appeared in the final pair for Barton, batting with sister Jess. Unexpectedly, his innings of 17 was not the highest score in their innings, as Shaun Hayes hit 4 fours on his way to 19. There was some good Richmondshire fielding, with a couple of run outs in the first over of the Barton innings possibly deciding the final result.

After the break, it looked like there would be rain at some time in the Richmondshire innings, but fortunately it held off, though it did get rather cold. Ted, Maurice, Harvey, Lewis, Liam and Jack all hit boundaries. James bowled Liam with a beautiful piece of bowling off the last ball of the innings, a straight-on ball that had been preceded by a big-spinning chinaman, but we were just far enough ahead for it not to matter.
