Darlington RA U11 v Richmond U11

Match report

Richmond U11s got back to winning ways with a comfortable victory over Darlington RA.  Sam Winter won the toss and decided that Richmond would bowl first on a lovely evening in Darlington.

The opening pair for Darlington RA batted confidently and initially ran well between the wickets.  However having posted a few runs they then misjudged a quick single and wicketkeeper Tom Dowson easily ran them out.  However after the opening pairs decent effort the rest of the pairs lost wickets at regular intervals through a combination of tight bowling, excellent catching and good fielding.  Darlington RA eventually lost 9 wickets with everyone bowling well, final figures being:

Sam Winter - 3 overs and 1 wicket for 10 runs
Johnny Carr - 3 overs and 2 wickets for 16 runs
Jonathan Carlton - 2 overs and 1 wicket for 3 runs
George Spink - 2 overs and 1 wicket for 6 runs
Toby Newton - 2 overs and 1 wicket for 8 runs
Ryan Goldsmith - 2 overs and 0 wicket for 4 runs
Eddy Lewington - 2 overs and 1 wicket for 7 runs

Great catches were taken by Tom Dowson, Ryan Goldsmith and Johnny Carr.

Darlington RA finished on 261 runs for 9 wickets giving them a net score of 189 runs.

As with the bowling and fielding, Richmond's batting was excellent throughout the innings.  George and Toby got the team off to a great start with 28 runs as a pair.  All the Richmond batsmen were good in defence against the good balls but whenever a bad ball was bowled were aggressive and hit a number of boundaries.  Further notable contributions were made by Ryan Goldsmith who hit 13 runs and Sam Winter who contributed 24 runs.  This meant at the end of their allotted overs Richmond had made 291 runs for the loss of just one wicket giving a net score of 283 runs and a win by 94 runs.

This was an excellent performance all round against decent opposition who Richmond outplayed in all departments.  A top performance by all eight players, well done.
