Richmond U11 v Seaton Carew U11

The Under 11s played their first league game of the season at Gilling against Seaton Carew.  For the first time this season Richmond batted first and found it tough going on a slow wicket.  Runs off the bat were hard to come by early on, although the opposition did give away quite a few extras.  The biggest problem for Richmond was sloppy running which resulted in three run outs, all from direct hits by Seaton Carew who fielded impressively throughout.  The innings was rescued by a last pair partnership of 23 runs between George Spink, who top scored with 16 runs, and James Kelly.  Jonathan Carlton had earlier made a useful contribution of 10 runs.  Richmond ended up with a net score of 237 runs.

This meant that Richmond would have to bowl and field well and on the whole they did that.  James Kelly took a wicket with the first ball and after that tight bowling restricted Seaton Carew and with their last pair at the crease the game could have gone either way.  However a run out from a good throw from Ryan Goldsmith tipped the game back to Richmond and they ended up running out winners by 9 runs.

A good start to the league campaign.
