Match report under 13s D@D league away at Middleton-in Teesdale

This was the third and final match against Middleton-in-Teesdale this season. We were lucky to get this match played, it had rained most of the day and due to the threat of further rain Richmond opened with the plan of playing 12 overs per side, luckily by the third over, the black clouds were replaced by sunshine and to the delight of Richmond we decided to play 16 overs. The field was wet and slow so the batters struggled to hit the boundary, scoring runs was also compounded by some frustratingly short pea rollers from some of the younger bowlers from the opposition.
Tim and Lucy opened, by the end of the fourth over the score was 214/1,(209 net). Alex and David ended the eighth over on 224/2,(214 net). James and Ted finished on 239/2,(229 net) which left the final pair of Matthew Price and Dom Clarke to try and boost the score. Matthew was the only batsman from either team who hit the boundary, four times, impressive considering how slow the pitch was. Dom was an excellent runner for Matthew, keeping him on bat most of the time, Matthew got 28 runs, at the end of Richmond's innings the score was 272/2,(net score 262).

Alex Hartley - captain, organised the bowlers and fielders well for the second innings, Ted bowled the first over and got the only maiden of the match, James Irving bowled the second over and our first wicket- an easy catch for Ted. The third over bowled by Lucy saw two wickets fall, a second catch by Ted, followed by a wicket for Lucy, thanks to a stumping from Matthew. By the end of the fourth over, bowled by Alex, the score was 205/3 (190 net), a good start.
The opposition's second pair got 15 runs off four overs and the older members of our team - Dom, Tim and David, between them gave away 12 'runs' with 4 wides and two no balls. By the end of the eighth over the score was 232/3,(215 net) and Middleton looked like they might have been in with a chance. Richmond kept the score down with the quick reflexes of Matthew as wicketkeeper, and the rest of the fielders, notably David. The last 8 overs plodded on, by the 14th over rain threatened to stop play but blew over, we didn't get any more wickets and the final score for Middleton was 262/3, net 247.

Man of the match- Matthew Price for his strong batting performance.

Thanks to Jim for umpiring
