U12 Match Reports

We played three matches this week, two on Tuesday and one on Thursday.

In Tuesday's cup semi-final, we were defeated by Bedale in a match that finished in very wet conditions. Having lost Owen Kelly to a broken arm and with Joe Shields far from well, our batting was weakened. We batted first, scoring 96 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, Joe, Sam, Matthew and Lewis all got double figures without being dismissed. Bedale got a good start, their first pair putting on 36 for no wickets, we then got back at them taking three wickets in the middle of the innings, but their last pair then took the match away from us again and they finished on 117 for 3. Bedale's top scorer was a certain A Langhorne with 16 runs.

We put out a second team against Scorton in a friendly on Tuesday; Scorton fielded many of their regular league players, whereas ours were playing at home in the cup match. Scorton batted first and scored 83 for 6, with Nathan Hislop and Oliver Carr both taking a wicket in their first match of the season. After a steady opening partnership from Jack Giddens and Oliver Carr, we lost wickets in the middle of the innings. Ted While hit out at the end scoring 12 not out, but we finished on 51 for 6.

On Thursday we played at Hutton Rudby in our final league match, a much more pleasant evening with a pitch in perfect condition. Hutton Rudby batted first, but lost a wicket to the first ball of the match and nine more wickets through the innings, to finish 79 for 10. Jordan Moss took 3 for 9, Ted While 3 for 5 and Andrew Gordon 2 for 16. Hutton Rudby's bowling was very random in its direction and length, but Jordan, Toby, Lewis and Matthew all managed to connect with enough of it to make it to double figures as we finished on 96 for 4, with two of the wickets being close runouts stemming from a lack of concentration.

We have now finished the under 12 league and cup fixtures, we finished a clear 2nd in the league having been beaten only by the very strong Marton side and reached the semi-final of the cup, pretty good for a team whose oldest players are under 11s.
