Under 11 Festival, Sunday 6th September

The first matches will start at 10.00 am, players taking part will need to be there by 9.30.

Tony Potter has been busy sorting players for our teams, we will have visiting teams from Barnard Castle and Darlington, with 3 Richmondshire teams. The tournament will therefore be in a round robin format, with each team playing four matches. Pasted in below are extracts from the rules for previous festivals, which will give you an idea of what to expect.

Teams will consist of 8 players.

There will be two matches taking place at any one time, matches will be 8 overs a side, therefore each match should be complete inside an hour.

The pitch is 21 yards long and a junior size leather ball will be used. Every player on the fielding side except the wicketkeeper must bowl an over. The wicketkeeper may not bowl. The fielding captain decides which one of his bowlers bowls the last over of the innings. Except for the last over of an innings, which should be bowled by the team’s best bowler; balls which are “wides” or “no balls” do not have to be bowled again. 2 runs are added to the batting side’s score for each wide or no ball bowled.

Balls which bounce more than twice before they reach the popping crease are to be called as “no balls”. If a bowler is struggling to bowl the correct length because of their size or strength, the umpire may suggest to them to bowl from a position closer to the batter than would normally be allowed; in such cases there will be no “front foot no balls” given.

Batsmen bat in pairs, each pair bats for 2 overs, regardless of how many wickets fall. At the start of the innings, the team has 200 runs. Every time a batsman is out, 5 runs is deducted from the team’s score, every time the team scores a run, a run is added to the team’s score. The not out batsman faces the next ball after a wicket.

Teams will receive two points for a win and one point for a tie. In the event of teams finishing level on points , "runs difference" will be used to determine final positions,  e.g. lost by 10 runs and won by 5 runs gives a net score of -5.
