Varying fortunes for U11's, but good signs for future

The U11 team has played a couple of times in the last few days, with varying fortunes. With numbers significantly hit by summer holidays, there have been opportunities for a group of players such as Kai Yorke, Kia Taylor McCall, Harris MacFarlane, Max Booth, Ross Wheatley, Alex Pinkney and Will Newson to show what they can do, and the experience will be very beneficial for next season.

On Thursday we lost away at Seaton Carew, with our net score of 247 being outstripped through an excellent last wicket partnership by Seaton Carew. Harris had a very promising knock in his first game, and Dan Sharp also batted well up front. With the ball, Kai bowled particularly well, picking up two good wickets.

Today we won an excellent match away at Stockton by one run. Will Newson picked up 2 wickets and a run out. There was also good bowling from debutants Kia and Max, and Sam Metcalfe bowled with good pace at the end, following the coaching manual by hitting the top of off stump twice, the leg bail left intact both times. Stockton were restricted to 264 net. An exciting chase started with some good hitting early on particularly by Ben Dale and Sam. But some mid-innings stutters meant Casper Stone and Johnny Baines needed 34 off the last 4 overs to win. They held their nerve and timed their partnership to perfection, running hard and hitting enough boundaries to win on the last ball.

Thanks to all the lads for making the experience of the reserve list management team of Liz Carlton, Andy Baines, Dave Richardson and myself a pleasure

Adrian
