U13's Progress in ECB Cup

Richmond U13's travelled to Studley Royal CC for their first game in the ECB Cup.  Against unknown opponents a tough game was expected.  Having won the toss Tom decided to bowl first on a green pitch.

Studley found it tough going from the start, with Jordan Forbes starting with two maidens.  The most promising Studley batsman fell to a run out from Jordan's throw after failing to slide his bat in.  Some resistance was shown by the Studley captain, however his resolve was tested when Louis hit him with a painful blow just above his knee.  He was eventually caught by Jordan, who was having a great day in the field, off Sam Potters bowling.  Once he had departed for 23, the innings fell apart with the last 6 wickets amazingly falling for 0 runs.  This period included double wicket maidens for both Amy Jobling and Sam Potter.  An excellent all round bowling and fielding performance from Richmond meant Studley were all out for 59.

It was still to be seen when Richmond batted if the green pitch was going to cause them problems in chasing down the Studley score.  James Kelly soon settled the Richmond nerves with three fours in the second over, with the Studley opening bowler bowling too short.  From this point James and opening partner Tom Dowson never looked back and completed a very comfortable 10 wicket win in the 13th over.  The only danger posed by a very promising leg spinner who deceived the batters a few times.  By the time the winning runs were hit Tom had 28 runs and James 26 not out.
