Lush-ious away win for U13s at Darlington

Darlington 105 for 6 (Toby Lush 3-13) Richmondshire 114 for 6 ( T Lush 33*)

Toby was on top form today, taking 3 wickets in the first over of the match, then playing a powerful innings in the last pair, including two sixes into the pavilion, as we came from behind to beat Darlington by 9 runs in a super game of pairs cricket.

Darlington batted first and were badly knocked back by Toby hitting the stumps three times in the opening over. Aided by extras, 38 of them, they staged a good recovery from that position to get to 105 for 6. We could have been sharper in the field, it looked like a good few of our team were still waking up, with some loose bowling and poor backing up of throws.

When it was our turn to bat, Darlington bowled accurately, though they had saved their best bowlers for the end of the innings. Our first pair, Ted and Sam, survived not out, but without as many runs as they would have liked. When Darlo's lesser bowlers came on, things went awry, Matty Price missed a straight ball, there was a silly run out and H was bowled, leaving work to be done. Harvey and James Metcalfe both hit out, James developed a big grin when he hit a six, but wickets also fell, so we still needed thirty-odd to win when Jonny and Toby came out. Toby was clearly on a mission, hitting the ball hard from the off. The second of two big sixes into the pavilion took us into the lead, the last over was relatively calm, but finished with a four through the mid-wicket boundary. Well played also to Jonny, you can't get a big individual score in pairs without a partner who can keep putting the strong batter back on strike.
