Under-13s vs Newton Aycliffe match report

It may have started four months later than expected, but Richmondshire Under-13s got their NYACC campaign underway with a comfortable six wicket win away to Newton Aycliffe.

Winning the toss and electing to field, Richmondshire got off to a dream start with a two-wicket maiden opening over from Andrew Ralph.

Tight bowling kept the score down over the following overs until Richmondshire struck again, this time in the 5th over when Eddy Player took a wicket. He repeated that again in his next over and Olly Ashton made it five wickets down after just nine overs.

Olly’s second wicket followed in the 11th and Max Percival added another just an over later. By now Newton Aycliffe were well and truly on the ropes on a windy evening which was more April like than July, and James Cox compounded their misery with a wicket in the 13th.

James got his second of the evening in the 15th over after a smart catch by Will Shaefer and the later wrapped up proceedings in the next over when he dismissed the last batsmen thanks to a catch by captain Fin Clarke.

Newton Aycliffe finished on 69 all out after 15.5 overs.

Richmondshire openers Fin Clark and Jack Platt played like they had opened together for years, putting together a great partnership of 30 before Jack was dismissed on 13.

Two further wickets followed in quick succession, with Fin being caught on 20, but any hope Newton Aycliffe had of putting pressure on Richmondshire soon ended thanks to Olly Ashton and Joe White. They put on a quick 21 with some great hitting before Olly was dismissed having scored 11 in 11 balls.

Max Percival and Joe then steered Richmondshire towards victory before Joe retired on 11 not out, leaving James Cox to hit a four with his second ball to win the game.

Richmondshire finished on 71 for 4 after 14.2 overs.
