Under-11s match report (Gemera Cup) vs Norton

Norton U11s 271 for 3 (256 net) v Richmondshire U11s 296 for 6 (266 net)

Richmondshire U11s win by 10 runs

We travelled up to Norton for the second time this season, hoping for the same result in our first Gemara Cup game.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, our opening pair of Isaac Bottomley (3) and Max Percival (14) were expecting to face some fierce pace from their opening bowlers. However, some excellent batting returned 22 runs with only a single wicket loss.

More good batting continued. James Cox (15), Joe White (13) and Tom Bromirskyj (10) all hitting double figures. Although 6 wickets fell, good run scoring made sure of a competitive 266 total to beat.

The team know that Norton are a good side and this game was far from over. Really tight bowling from our first 8 overs ensured that the away side were firmly in the driving seat. Raam Raj, James Cox and Tom Bromirskyj bowling 6 overs for 9 runs between them.

From previous experience, we knew that their strongest batters performed in the 3rd and fourth pairs and this is where the game started to heat up. Still without a wicket, the total moved on to 257 by the end of the 12th over (36 scored by the 3rd pair) turning the game on its head and requiring some serious hard work in the final overs.

With Norton needing only 10 runs in 4 overs, Richmondshire needed some heroes to step forward and be counted. Enter Max Percival, bowling a tight 13th over for only 2 runs. Then came Jack Platt with a tight over and a wicket (at last!) with some help from an excellent one handed James Cox catch. Max returned in the 15th over, another wicket for only 1 run (and another catch for Cox). Suddenly the match swung in our favour. Up stepped Platt to finish it off. 5 taken off the over (unfortunately a double overthrow from some over exuberant fielding) but then a run out to finish it off!

We all returned having lost a great deal of finger nail. Well done team!

The Wensleydale Heifer player of the Match is awarded to Max Percival for an excellent all round performance.
