Richmondshire U-13s match report vs Hartlepool (cup)

Richmondshire U-13s lost to Hartlepool by 20 runs.

On a lovely summer evening, Richmondshire travelled to Hartlepool for their first cup game of the season. Having played half a game in the league before it was abandoned due to the weather, we knew it would be a tough match, and so it turned out to be.

Batting first, Hartlepool’s county playing openers struggled against some great bowling, notably from Alex Nimmo who got a wicket in his second delivery of the night and went on to give away only 3 runs away from his 3 overs. After Hartlepool steadied things with the bat, Richmondshire got back on top with three wickets within the space of 16 runs. Alex Nimmo started proceedings with a run out, William Shaefer then trapped the Hartlepool number 4 lbw and Finlay Clarke claimed a wicket following a great catch by Joe Sydall.

Showing their strength in depth, Hartlepool continued to battle well and despite Jack Van Niekiek claiming his first wicket of the season, they finished on 110-5, helped considerably by 40 extras.

With an achievable target to chase, Alex and Finlay started well, putting on 34 for the first wicket but found boundaries hard to come by, definitely helped by the Hartlepool coach taking charge and changing his field almost every ball. Alex managed 15 before he was out and Finlay went on to score 20 before he was out. Only 2 more players managed double figures, Williams scoring 11 and a late flourish from Tom Van Niekerk, scoring 18, was not enough, Richmondshire finishing their 20 overs on 90-8.

Only 16 extras from Hartlepool told the tale of the evening.
