Richmondshire Rhinos U11s match report vs Yarm

Yarm U11s 267 for 12 (207 net) v Richmondshire Rhinos 303 for 6 (273 net)

It was a top of the table clash at Yarm this week, with our Rhinos looking to extend their unbeaten run to 4 games and stand alone at the top of the table. Second placed Yarm stood in their way, also with 3 straight wins but an inferior net run rate.

With Yarm putting us into bat, the recently promoted pairing of James Cox (15) and Eddy Player (4), who have really risen to the opportunity of opening the innings, made hay while the sun shone down. They returned with 20 well-crafted runs on the scoresheet. The Yarm bowling was accurate and we had to be on our guard. However, Jack Platt (16) and Tom Brom (9) waited for the bad balls and returned with a further 26 runs.

The side included a debutant - a 9 year old Jack Ford (3) joined the Rhino ranks for the first time and didn’t disappoint. Along with his able partner Archie Lawson (4), more runs were added by the end of the 12th over, setting it up for the sloggers - Joe White (33) and Gabe Everitt (4) to round off an excellent innings and set a challenging target.

To be honest, the Yarm innings never got going! A continual flow of wickets stemmed any attempted flow of runs throughout the 16 overs. 12 wickets were taken in total, which mirrored the quality of the bowling attack. Highlights were Jack Platt’s 2 victims for 4 along with a more confident and assured performance as captain in the field, which was great to see! 2 wickets were also taken by Eddy, Joe and Tom (who bowled very well again!) but the most satisfying bowling performance was provided by new boy Ford, who took his first Richmondshire wicket and was rewarded with the responsibility of bowling the important final over by captain Platt.
Overall, a great performance - well done Rhinos!

The SDR Joinery Player of the Match is awarded to Jack Platt for an excellent all-round performance, including his captaincy.
