Richmoindshire Under-11s NYACC match report vs Sedgefield

Richmondshire 306 for 4 (286 net) v Sedgefield 268 for 6 (238 net)
Richmondshire win by 48 runs

Another fantastic victory for our NYACC team against a very strong Sedgefield side.

With Richmondshire winning the toss and putting the visitors into bat, some tight, accurate bowling followed against competent batsmen. Only 2 wides and no no-balls were bowled across the 16 overs. This week, the bowling highlights were an excellent 2 overs from James Cox (2-0-4-2) and similarly from Raam Raj (2-0-9-2) in the middle overs that held back the scoring rate and put us on firmly on the front foot. By the time the final pairing came to the crease, we had limited them to 219 net and with only another 19 runs scored by their best two batsmen in the last over, Richmondshire enjoyed their juice and custard cream at the interval, knowing that they were the bookies' favourites.

However, it soon became clear that Sedgefield weren't going to surrender without a fight. An excellent bowling attack provided all 4 pairs with a high quality challenge. However, the key thing about this Richmondshire side is that they can all score runs and rotate the strike. Even if wickets are taken, players strike back quickly and retake the initiative from the bowling side. Good contributions were made by all players running up to the final pair - Max (8), James (8), Eddy (6) and Issac with a very fluent and accomplished 16, including 3 boundaries, being worthy of specific note.

As our final pair of Joe and Jack came to the crease, the scoreboard showed 233 net. 4 overs and 53 runs later, they returned to the pavilion grinning from ear to ear with the job well and truly done - having faced some strong bowling into the bargain!

The Wensleydale Heifer Player of the Match goes to Joe White for scoring 37 runs from 15 balls.
