The Under 9s bring home the Phil Fisher Cup to Richmondshire!
The Hambleton League’s Phil Fisher Cup - Under 9s Finals Day
With our Under 9s having won the north section league last
week, they progressed to the finals day on Sunday. Initially, two semi-finals involved the 4
teams who had finished in the top two positions in their respective
leagues. The winning teams then met in
the final to decide who won the Phil Fisher Cup – the ultimate in under 9
silverware!
Richmondshire
296-1 (291 net) beat Thirsk 241-10 (191 net) by 100 runs!
Our match report from the semi-final against Thirsk is brought to you by James Cox.
Thirsk won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Richmondshire got off to a defensive start with Isaac
Bottomley and Raam Raj only scoring one run between them. Our loyal supporters
thought we would be going home early! However,
our second pair Eddy Player and James Cox really got us going. Eddy scoring a
very pleasing 15 runs and James backing him up with 3. We were all very proud
of Eddy’s performance as an injury after training on Friday could have stopped
him playing.
Our third pair Max Percival and Tom Bromirskyj carried on the
run scoring with 7 between them. They have been a solid pairing this
season. Our final pair Joseph White and
Jack Platt added to the brilliance of the batting from Richmondshire. Joseph
showed another strong performance and got a whopping 16 runs. Jack and Joseph have enjoyed themselves at
the crease this season. Jack Platt scored a decent amount of 9 runs securing our
total of 291.
Richmondshire were very determined in the field, desperate
to put everything we learnt in training into good use. We took 10 wickets from
them. Our supporters were ecstatic, and even Mike smiled!! Thirsk didn’t stand
a chance against our fast bowlers with a couple of near miss injuries taking
place. This match was a very balanced performance with excellent fielding,
bowling and batting shown. We then had to watch and wait to see who we would
face in the final…
Phil Fisher
Cup Final
Richmondshire
276-6 (246 net) beat North Stainley 279-7 (244 net) by 2 runs!
Our match report from the final is brought to you by Edward
Player.
North
Stainley won the toss and chose to field first.
First the
usual batting pair of Raam and Issac got us off to a steady start with 20 runs
off the first four overs without the loss of a wicket. Issac with 6 runs and Raam with 4, made up of
one boundary each and creating a brilliant lead for the second pair.
Edward and
James came up against some good bowling from North Stainley but battled well
and added 7 runs to the total. Unfortunately, they conceded a wicket but there
was still solid defensive batting from the pair that really has got going this
season.
The next two
batters, Tom and Max, had a good innings and put another 12 runs to the total,
just losing 2 wickets. As well as
hitting a boundary, they were up against a few good bowlers but still managed
to hit 4 (Tom) and 8 (Max).
Joseph with
14 runs and Jack with 7, finished off the innings with some good shots. The
pair hit 21 losing 3 wickets but got a good boundary that went for a 4 from
Joseph. The pair have been brilliant this season with their batting at the
crease.
It was now Richmondshire's
turn to field, defending a score of 246 and then the drama really started....
Raam was
first to bowl and created very few opportunities for North Stainley to score a
high number of runs. Then, the wicket
taking began! First was Joseph, then
Edward. Issac followed his own advice by
getting another. James' solid bowling
continued the run of wickets nicely. Next
Tom ran out North Stainley's famous slogger (Kitty) in a stroke of genius. Jack with some tremendous bowling got the
team yet another one.
With North
Stainley needing 10 runs to win, all the tension rested on Max's shoulders as
he took the final over. One of the fastest bowlers in the world, he didn't
disappoint, leaving North Stainley needing 4 runs off the last ball. Max held
his nerve and with some calm fielding only 1 run was scored.
Richmondshire
took the trophy and the glory! (Most spectators just took a huge sigh of
relief!)
Well done
Richmondshire, a much deserved win and a fantastic end to a dream season!
