U9 Match v Bedale, Match Report

On a rather wet evening, Richmondshire 120 for 4 (300 net) beat Bedale 59 for 7 (224 net) by 76 runs. If we'd been playing on a grass wicket, we wouldn't have finished the match, as we would have been playing on mud.

We batted first and got off to a fantastic start thanks to Joseph and Isaac, with Joseph hitting 28 (four 4s, one 6) and Isaac 9. Our remaining batters all made useful contributions, as per my earlier post, they could have scored more if they were more interested in running than admiring their fine shots. The short boundaries seem to result in an obsession with hitting the boundaries, perhaps for running practice we should play a game with adult size boundaries?

Our performance in the field was notable for wicket maidens, which were bowled by Max, Isaac and Andrew. Joseph, Evan and Harry also took wickets but without the maidens.

Particular thanks to Dave Ralph for scoring, which is not at all easy in the rain, as I know from the match at Masham.
