U9 match report v Sessay

Richmondshire 92 for 5 (267 net) beat Sessay 78 for 7 (243 net) by 24 runs.

Sessay arrived late due to traffic on the A1 and minus two of their players who had instead travelled to their home ground. Thomas and Monte were recruited to fill in for Sessay and Sessay were then put in to bat. For umpire Mike White there was the excitement of getting to use a clicker for the first time and scorer Dave Ralph had the pleasure of operating the scorebox; both were to pass their tests with flying colours.

Three Sessay wickets fell in the first pair, two in Max's over, but the Sessay players knew what they were doing and increased the net score through runs scored faster than it was reduced through wickets taken. Two more wickets fell in Max's second over, then  Sessay's last batsman Corry managed to score 16 not out, to leave a fairly challenging target.

Joseph and Eddie opened the batting and accumulated steadily without losing a wicket, then Lorcan batting with Ollie hit a couple of fours. The star performance was from Max, who batted with Thomas and hit 21 not out, including a six, which meant we were ahead of Sessay by the end of the third pair. Andrew and Isaac then added a further 23 runs for the loss of one wicket to take widen the margin to 24 runs.

There should be two more fixtures to play, against Bedale and the league all-girls team. Though this is really just cricket for fun, at the moment we are level with Masham at the top of the league table, both teams having won four and lost one.
