U13 ECB National Cup – Round 2 match report

Tony Potter has provided this report;

The Under 13s travelled down to the impressive Studley Royal CC ground near Ripon to play in the next round of the ECB Cup.

We lost the toss and were put in to bat on a greenish wicket which offered the bowlers a bit. Runs were hard to come by but Richmond grafted their way to 87-8 wickets from their 20 overs with a particularly good knock of 30n.o. from Tom Ward and contributions from others to get us a score to try to defend.

Richmond knew they had to bowl and field well from the start to build up some pressure and the fielding was excellent backing up a good spell from the opening bowlers. Gradually Richmond got on top as 12 overs from Jonny Baines, Sam Potter and Patrick Carlton conceded just 29 runs from the bat to give Richmond a real chance of victory.

The fielders also held their nerve well as Studley began to take chances later on to try to get back near the required run rate. A total of 4 run outs including a direct hit from Jim Bowler-Jones in a tense last over left Studley Royal just short on 80 all out and Richmond through to face the winners of the Harrogate and Wetherby areas in the third round.

Well done boys – some really mature cricket and a really exciting and well-deserved win!
