Another U13 match report

A new look U13 team with 4 players making their season debuts took on a young and enthusiastic Newton Aycliffe team in our first home game at the new Richmond School pitch.

Richmond bowled first and although Aycliffe scored freely (helped by quite a few wides from our bowlers!) wickets fell regularly too so that a score of 272 became a net score of 184 after 20 overs.
Pick of the Richmond bowlers were undoubtedly Patrick Carlton with 2 wickets for just 1 run from his 2 overs and Sam Metcalfe with 3-8 from 3 overs of prodigious spin!

In reply Richmond batted steadily with the first two batting pairs taking the score to 230-1 after 8 overs. Richmond then lost a few more wickets in the middle overs (including a rarity – stumped off a wide!) as Aycliffe never gave up in the field. The Richmond innings closed on 294-8 (net 230) for a 46 run win. Highlight on the batting front was undoubtedly Chas Stephenson with some nicely timed shots to finish on 19 n.o.

Overall a good spirited game (if a little chilly for spectating parents and scorers!) with plenty for individual  players to work on in the forthcoming practice sessions if we are to progress further in both cup competitions.
