Yorkshire U17 Championships
The NYSD under 17 representative team ended the league stage of the Yorkshire championships with an outstanding away victory over the Bradford League at Undercliffe last Sunday.
The win meant the NYSD had gone through the league stage undefeated, and they came out top of Division One, a major achievement in itself. Their success has earned them a home semi-final tie on August the 2nd when the knock out stages of the competition begin.
The NYSD lost a couple of early batsmen, but a third wicket partnership of 70 between Whitby’s Fin Morris (30 from 49 balls) and Middlesbrough’s Joe Gaudie (48 from 49 balls) got the innings back on track before a mid-order collapse saw the innings in danger on 104-7.
Once again the batting strength in depth of the side came to the rescue, Richmondshire’s Adam Langhorne (28), Normanby’s Adam Beaumont (35) and Maltby’s Charlie Irvine (19 not out) all providing crucial contributions to take the final total up to 191 from 48.3 overs.
Bradford were then rocked by a brilliant opening burst from Richmondshire’s Owen Kelly, the youngster taking out the top three batsmen with just 12 on the board. His Richmond colleagues, Joe Shields and Adam Langhorne, then got in on the action with a couple of wickets each, and despite some resistance the home team were done for and were eventually bowled out for 119 to lose by 72 runs. Kelly ended with figures of 4-17 from 9.2 overs.

Junior League North
Richmondshire maintained their grip on the league leadership of the Northern division, but only just as Sedgefield pushed them all the way on Monday night before going down by four wickets with just four balls remaining.
A second wicket partnership worth 98 runs between Jack Rutherford (54 not out from 43 balls) and Glen Lancaster (36 from 53 balls) put Sedgefield in with a real chance of  causing an upset, the hosts eventually posting 124-5 to throw down the gauntlet.
All the key Richmond batsmen then got a start, but each got out having done the hard work, and it was left to number six bat Garry Walker to crack 3 fours and 1 six in a crucial 12-ball cameo that won the game with time running out. Walker’s blast earned him an unbeaten 22 and helped the Dalesmen foil a home side inspired by Ben Swindale, who took four wickets for 13 runs as the panic set in.
The victory made it nine wins from nine matches for Richmond, with second-placed Stockton four points behind having lost the head to head between the pacesetters. Each have two games to play.

Since then, our U17s have also beaten Wolviston, meaning they are now one win away from winning the league. The final league fixture is at Darlington on Thursday 6th August.

The U17s are also playing in the semi-final of the Junior Plate 20 overs-a-side knock-out cup at Seaton Carew on Monday night and the 15 overs-a-side coloured clothing cup at Barnard Castle on Friday night.
