U13s Make It Two Out Of Two

Richmond U13s played their second league game of the season at Gilling against Newton Aycliffe.

With a much changed team Richmond batted first for the second game running.  It was not easy early on with some tight bowling, although the cause was helped with a 7 for Tom Dowson when a fielder shied at the stumps after Richmond had run 3 only to see the ball miss and disappear over the boundary at the other side of the ground.  Batting did get easier and Richmond eventually scored 119 for 5 off their 20 overs.  Key contributions from Tom Dowson 30, James Norman 23 not out and Daniel Baines and Sam Potter with 13 each.

When Richmond bowled they were much tidier than in recent performances, initially taking wickets at regular intervals.  After 12 overs Aycliffe were 5 wickets down for 30 runs with some good catches from Alex Speakman and James Norman.  From that point on Aycliffe totally shut up shop and the Richmond bowlers bowled a total of 9 maidens, with two from Mr Reliable Sam Potter and wicket maidens from James Newsome, Griffin Bewell, Alex Speakman and Tom Cole.  This accurate bowling restricted Aycliffe to 44 for 5 and gave the U13s a comfortable win by 75 runs.

Pleasing to see a much more disciplined bowling performance with only 3 wides bowled in 20 overs. A much tougher test to come in the third game at local rivals Darlington.
