U15 Match v Darlington RA - Spence takes the match ball

Scores Darlington RA 110-7, Richmondshire 113-1

With a large crowd at the Gilling Arena (all 5 benches in use, thanks Swale Scaffolding for the replacement planks) and the tea urn working hard (thanks Margi Irving), RA batted first on a damp pitch and started well, not losing their first wicket until the tenth over. Their scorecard was to prove rather top heavy, opener Paul Reardon retired on 54, the other opener scored 33, but the bottom half contained four ducks, two of which were in Spence's hat trick. Tom finished with four wickets and Jonny Carlton two.

On a damp pitch with a large puddle in the outfield, I thought chasing 110 would not be that easy, but it proved otherwise. Opening the batting we had Matthew Price playing his first junior match of the season after recovering from a broken wrist. That mended wrist must be pretty good, as Matthew retired on 51 in only the seventh over of the innings, having hit the ball cleanly all around the wicket. Matthew hit two sixes, Gary Walker hit another as he finished the match in the thirteenth over with his variation of the forward defensive stroke over long off.
