U11 Match Report Barnard Castle invaders "Warded off" at Gilling

Richmondshire 69 for 2 (259 net) beat Barnard Castle 262 for 8 (222 net) by 37 runs.

Net score = runs scored + 200 - 5 runs per wicket lost

The Under 11s opened their competitive season with a cup game against local rivals Barnard Castle at the Gilling Arena.
Richmond won the toss and elected to bowl first. Henry Shepherd set the tone for an excellent team fielding display with a direct hit to run out their opener. Not to be outdone, Angus Potter repeated the feat several overs later and Patrick Carlton combined well with new keeper Tom Ward for a third run out to keep things tight through the Barney innings.
All the bowlers performed well in parts despite a few early season wides and Barney were restricted to 262-8 wickets from their 20 overs giving a net score of 222 to chase.
In reply our openers Jonny Baines and Henry had to contend with some very accurate bowling from their strongest bowlers but came safely through their overs without losing a wicket to set things up nicely.
The following pairs all chipped away at the total and batted patiently on a slow low surface. Finally skipper Tom Ward strode to the crease with partner George McCowie making his competitive debut. Some expansive shots from Tom including a big lofted drive from their opening bowler took Richmond’s final score to 269-2 wickets.
A pleasing first win by 37 runs – well done boys!
