Richmond U13 vs Rockliffe Park 12 Jun match report

There was drama in the sun at Gilling yesterday as Richmond were edged out by Rockliffe Park by 1, yes 1, run. Richmond batted first. There was an excellent opening partnership of 22 without loss from Matthew and Louis. Some girl power from Megan and Amy added a further 24 for no wicket. George and Sam added 19 more for only 1 wicket lost, and Nathan and Max were going well against some challenging Rockliffe bowling until the late loss of 2 wickets to the wily leg-spinning tricks of Rockliffe's captain and sometime Richmond team-mate. Richmond still posted a healthy net score of 265. But Rockliffe had some strong batters, particularly in the first and last pair. Despite some good disciplined bowling from all the Richmond bowlers, supported by enthusiastic fielding, a combination of good batting and poor luck meant Richmond only managed to take 2 wickets. Rockliffe went into the last over one run ahead, and were in survival mode against a testing over from Megan. The fifth ball missed the leg stump by a millimetre, and Rockliffe survived. Although we were disappointed to lose, it was a great game for all to be involved in.
