Report, U15 League Match v Barnard Castle

A first defeat of the season, with a dramatic finish as the Barney wicketkeeper hit the penultimate ball of the match clean out of the ground over the long square leg boundary and into the Auction Mart. Up until that ball, Jordan Moss had only conceded one run off the bat in 3.4 overs.

It was a damp morning, with a wet outfield, fortunately the wicket had been covered and was very dry. We batted first and after 9 overs were 34 for 4. Ryan Campbell then managed to hang around to support Sam Winter, putting on 54 runs. Ryan was caught behind for 14 and Sam run out off the penultimate ball for 44, as we finished on 91 for 6.

Both the Barney openers were out early, Ted dropped one at square leg but then threw the ball in to run him out, while James Irving caught the other with a superb catch running backwards at deep mid-on. There then followed some mediocre cricket with some wayward legside Richmondshire bowling which the Barney batters were not able deal with, so a little pressure to score runs started to build. Towards the end, the pressure got to the Barney batters, wickets started to fall and at the start of the last over they were 85 for 6 with the no.8 facing and on 0 not out. He played and missed 4 times, taking a bye to the keeper after the fourth miss, which brought the 'keeper back on strike. He swung hard, connected and that was it.
