Hartlepool U11 v Richmond U11 Match Report

Richmond U11s faced a tough test away at Hartlepool CC on Thursday in conditions that were the total opposite of 2 nights previously.

Hartlepool batted first and an early wicket in the first over from Jordan Forbes gave Richmond a promising start.  However from that point on the bowling was not as threatening as normal and on a small pitch a number of boundaries were conceded and Hartlepool made good progress to racking up a challenging total to chase.  Richmonds cause would have been even more difficult had there not been a strange run out of the last ball of their innings.  A ball from Jordan was missed by Tom behind the stumps and looked to be heading for four byes, however Oliver Cocksedge did well to stop it and as he returned the ball the batsman inexplicably set off for a third run and got about two yards before Tom took the bails off.  This meant Hartlepool had scored 270 runs for the loss of 2 wickets meaning a net score of 254 runs.

Whilst Richmond's bowling was not up to the usual high standard their batting was excellent on a good pitch.  Decent contributions were made throughout the innings by all batsmen with Jordan probably the pick of the batters.  Having got themselves ahead as the last pair went in the only bit of drama was when a wicket was then lost to fall behind Hartlepools score again.  However James Kelly with 19 runs, including a 6 over square leg, meant they got home comfortably in the end.  Final score 296 runs for the loss of 2 wickets meaning a net score of 280 runs and a win by 26 runs.

This was a good test for the Richmond team and good batting saw them through.  Next test is finals day on Sunday.
