Romp in the sun for Under 13s

It was a perfect morning for cricket at sun baked Gilling. Darlington RA's performance against us in the Lowery cup lead us to think they might present tough opposition but this morning they couldn't cope with our bowlers on a wicket with variable bounce. Faster bowls were inclined to get up, slower bowls to stay very low. By the end of the innings 11 wickets had been lost 3 to James Irving, 2 to Ryan Campbell, 2 to Ted While, 1 to Jonny Carlton, 1 to James Metcalfe with 2 run outs. The strong bowling performance was backed up by some excellent fielding, notably a direct hit run out by Toby Lush and Matty Price taking two catches at short mid off.

Darlington RA ended on 252 runs and 11 wickets giving a net score of 164.

Darlington's bowlers were never able to exploit the variable bounce in the same way. Matty Price (16) and James Irving (6) got us off to a good start without losing their wickets. Things stalled slightly with second pair as Ted While (10)  and Jacob Tate (2) gave catches attempting to hit the slower bowlers, both being out twice. James Metcalfe (23) out once and Ryan Campbell (8) started to pile on the runs and George Spink (3) and Adam Heseltine (18) without loss, kept things going. The final pairing of Toby Lush (31) out once and Jonny Carlton (7) not out, rounded things off nicely to give us a final score of 348 for 6 wickets, 300 net. A victory by 136 runs.
