Double over Stockton completed

Gemara Cup Finals Day

Richmond U11s travelled to Marton CC for the Gemara Cup Finals Day on a glorious day.  They arrived just in time to see Stockton CC beat Darlington CC in a close first semi final.

Semi Final v Wolviston

Richmond played Wolviston in their semi final and were never in any trouble.  Bowling first they restricted the runs and took wickets at regular intervals and despite the umpires being a little harsher than would normally be the case with wides Wolivston never threatened to pose a big score.  Things got even worse for Wolviston when the pick of the bowlers, Henry Noke, took four wickets for two runs and with Sam Potter being his normal miserly self Wolviston finished on 235 runs for 6 wickets giving a net total of 187 runs.

Richmond were quickly into their stride and Tom Dowson hit 21 runs in the first pair and once the second pair had batted Richmond were comfortably ahead.  It therefore didnt matter when the last two pairs contrived to score minus runs with four wickets lost against some decent Wolviston bowling.  However the damage had been done with the ball and Richmond eventually ran out winners by 44 runs.

Final v Stockton

As had been the case earlier in the week with the under 13s, Richmond met Stockton in the final.  After winning the toss for the second time in the day Tom again put the opposition into bat first.  This quickly looked like a good decision with James Kelly twice bowling his namsake on the opponents team, Lewis Kelly, to get Richmond off to a great start.  Wickets continued to tumble with Oliver Cocksedge also adding two of his own and with Sam Potter adding one and a run out from a good throw by James Norman Stocktons innings was in big trouble.  After 3 pairs had batted Stockton were still in a negative net score, however their last pair gave them a little hope with 30 runs and no wickets.  This meant a final total of 272 runs for 6 wickets and a net score of 224 runs, well below what they would have expected.  A great effort in the field from the whole Richmond team.

For their innings Richmond swapped their normal batting order and sent the James's - Norman and Kelly - in  first.  The move reaped immediate rewards with James Kelly setting about their opening bowler and hitting a four and a six in the first over.  He continued attacking the bowling and as a pair 28 were added with James Kelly adding 22 of those runs.  Jordan and Sam Potter batted sensibly and contributed 13 runs with no wickets so at the halfway stage Richmond were ahead of the game.  However Stockton's Kelly got his revenge with a couple of wickets when Richmond's 3rd pair batted and with a negative score posted Stockton had given themselves an outside chance.  Richmond's final pair, Tom Dowson and Louis Peacock, knew when they went in that sensible batting would see them win the final.  Tom dominated the strike and looked fairly safe without adding a lot of runs and with 13 undefeated runs added Richmond comfortably got over the line by 26 runs.

After defeat in the final of this cup last year this was an excellent all round performance with every one of the team contributing with bat and ball over the two games.  The display in the final was particularly pleasing, as against a decent Stockton team we totally dominated proceedings.  Well done to everyone involved and big thanks to the parents for their support across the two games.

Now for the league?
