U13 D and D Cup Match v Darlington, Report

The weather maps on the BBC were correct, the rain stopped a few minutes before the start of play, neither side was bothered about playing in the wet so away we went, playing 16 overs a side just in case there was more rain.

Darlo batted first, we bowled fairly tidily with a wet ball as they reached 70 for 3, 255 net, a total that was a fair challenge as they were playing a couple of decent pace bowlers from their NYACC team. Ryan and H contained the last pair well, helping to keep the target down.

When we batted we scored at a faster rate, with Ted, Luke, Maurice and the Walker twins hitting plenty of boundaries. Gary and Kyle were last pair and got us ahead of the Darlo score with 2 and a bit overs to go. However, they brought their opening bowlers back on. Kyle was bowled and Gary caught behind via some loose tape on his bat, so we then fell behind. A wide from the first ball of the last over and a slashed four took us ahead again, a full toss was then driven for four to secure the victory in a fine game of pairs cricket. Our final score 88 for 5, 263 net.

This should be a trophy secured, as we have knocked the strongest side out of the cup.
