Richmond v Seaton Carew - Match Report

Richmond U11s continued their league campaign with a home game against Seaton Carew at the main ground.  Afternoon rain threatened the start of the game but in the end things faired up and the game was played in ideal conditions.

Tom won the toss for the first time in a while and decided to bowl first.  The bowlers were quickly into their stride and bowled very tightly all the way through the innings.  Wickets fell at regular intervals and by the end a total of eight Seaton batsman had been dismissed.  The wickets were shared around with Daniel Baines taking 2 wickets for 4 runs and Ralph Makepeace taking 2 wickets for 1 run, with wickets on consecutive balls in his second over.  Seaton Carew scored 235 runs and when the wickets were deducted achieved a net score of 171 runs.

The Richmond batsman never looked like they were in any danger of losing the game, although progress was slower than normal against some good Seaton Carew bowling.  Boundaries were scored by James Norman, Jordan Forbes and Henry Noke and when the first 3 pairs had batted we were comfortably ahead.  Tom Dowson added some late runs in the last pair, top scoring with 21 runs including a six over cover from a high full toss.  Richmond finished their innings on 283 runs for the loss of 3 wickets giving a net score of 259 runs and a victory by 88 runs.

Most pleasing things about this comprehensive win was the disciplined bowling which resulted in only 2 wides being bowled which was a great effort with a wet ball.
