RICHMOND U11 V WOLVISTON U11 LEAGUE GAME

Richmond U11s played their first league game of the season following last weeks postponement against Newton Aycliffe.

On a lovely evening at Gilling Wolviston won the toss and decided to bowl first on a really good pitch for junior cricket.  Richmond were straight into their stride and Tom Dowson hit a few boundaries in the opening pair.  The trend continued throughout the innings with some really positive stroke play against any bad balls and good defence otherwise.  The final total was really boosted by the last pair James Kelly and Oliver Cocksedge who hit some great shots and ran really well between the wickets and ended up contributing 39 runs as a pair.  This gave a final total of 302 runs and with the loss of only one wicket, a net score of 294 runs for Wolviston to chase.

It was a total that Wolviston never looked like getting as, although they didnt look like losing many wickets, they also did not look to play many attacking shots.  Their innings was summed up by Sam Potters spell of bowling which was 2 overs 2 maidens.  Had Richmond not bowled a series of wides in the middle of the innings they would have finished on a very low total.  As it was they got to 258 runs for the loss of 2 wickets (taken by Louis Peacock and Oliver Cocksedge) giving a net score of 242 runs and a Richmond win by 52 runs.

A good start to the league campaign and if Richmond could cut out the wides that they bowled they would be even stronger - something to work on with Shani on Friday.
