Richmond U11 v Darlington U11 Match Report

Richmond U11s managed to keep their unbeaten run going in a thrilling game against their arch rivals Darlingtom U11s at Gilling West on Thursday evening.

Darlington batted first and were well contained generally by the Richmond bowlers.  Darlington finished on 262 runs and with the loss of 4 wickets posted a net score of 230 runs.  Wickets were shared out with Jordan Forbes, James Kelly, Oliver Cocksedge and Sam Potter each taking one.

When Richmond batted the first two pairs made batting look fairly easy and with 239 runs on the board at the halfway stage a comfortable win appeared to be on the cards for Richmond.  However despite adding a few runs the third pair allowed 3 wickets to fall and with the final pair, James Kelly and Ralph Makepeace, going in the Richmond lead had shrunk to 3 runs.  Then with some very tight bowling, indifferent running between the wickets and a skied catch by James Richmond slipped behind the Darlington score with the last over to be bowled.  James hit the first ball of the last over for 4 to regain the advantage.  Four dot balls then followed meaning a wicket was required from the last ball for a Darlington win and anything else meaning Richmond had triumphed.  A full toss was bowled and James duly dispatched it for four meaning Richmond had scored 267 runs for the loss of 4 wickets giving a net score of 235 runs and a tight victory by 5 runs.

The last 3 outings against Darlington have all gone down to the last ball and it was good in the end to see the Richmond players hold their nerve and get over the line.  But a great game of junior cricket all the same!
