Norton U11 v Richmond U11 Match Report

Richmond U11s continued their league campaign with an away trip to Norton CC.  Tom agaion lost the toss and Norton, with a very young team, decided to bowl first.

As has been the case in the last few games when Richmond have been asked to bat first they got off to a very positive start with any bad balls put away by the Richmond batsman.  All pairs were consistent throughout with pairs scores of 21, 19, 21 and 34 runs respectively.  James Kelly top scored with 28 runs and there were useful contributions from Tom Dowson 14 runs, Jordan Forbes 10 runs and Ralph Makepeace on his debut 10 runs.  This led the U11s to a final score of 306 runs for the loss of just one wicket giving a net score of 298 runs.

Norton's young team were never going to challenge that total and after eight overs of their reply they had only scored two runs off the bat against some very tight Richmond bowling.  The final pair did make their score a little more respectable with their captain hitting an unbeaten 20 runs.  However at the end of their innings they had reached 239 runs for the loss of 7 wickets giving a net score of 183 runs and a win for the U11s by 115 runs.  The bowling was a lot better this week with very few wides and no repeat of the series of no balls bowled at Barnard Castle earlier in the week.  Of particular note were James Kelly who capped a great all round performance with 2 wickets for 4 runs and Ralph who crowned an impressive debut with 2 wickets also.  The other wickets fell to Oliver Cocksedge and the Baines brothers Daniel and Jonathan.

The team will face stiffer tests in the coming weeks but it was another good win to keep the unbeaten run going.
