Match Report, U13 NYACC Cup Match v Newton Aycliffe

Captain Sam Winter won the toss and elected to bowl first, with batting looking a bit challenging on a very cold morning with the wicket a bit damp. With no regular wicketkeepers playing, Jonny Carlton took the gloves and did an excellent job with the pitch often suffering from low bounce. Every Richmondshire player got a bowl, with tight bowling from the experienced medium pacers and the two leggies Ryan Goldsmith and Lucy bamboozling the Aycliffe batters, Aycliffe were restricted to 65 for 4 off their 20 overs, Ryan Campbell taking two of the wickets..

With many of our main run scorers from last year still playing football and rugby, Sam opened the batting with Ted. Ted was out in the 9th over, by which time we had 62 runs on the board. In the next over Sam hit the winning four, so the match was won by 9 wickets with only half of the overs used.

An excellent performance, the match was won easily because of the performance in the field, Aycliffe would have lost more than 4 wickets if our bowlers had remembered to appeal for lbw !!
